Chapter five

Michael returned home and Victoria flew into his arms, tears streaming down her face. Michael asked Victoria what was wrong? she lead him to the couch and had the note from violet adams and the black and white picture. Michael stared at both for several minutes. he told Victoria they would leave in the morning for Manchester, Vermont to find violet adams. Michael assured her they would get to the bottom of it, not to worry. after Victoria went to bed Michael called his father to inform him of the latest development and his father suggested a friend who was a retired police officer in boston turned private investigator several years ago. Michael would call him once they returned from Vermont. he then went to bed.

the next morning they drove to Manchester, Vermont and Michael found the police station. Victoria stayed in the car while Michael went inside. the officer on duty asked Michael how he could help him? Michael simply explained he was trying to locate a resident by the name of violet adams. it appeared her phone number was unpublished. when the officer turned his back Michael looked at the computer screen and memorized the address-130 maple street. the officer tried to telephone violet adams but received no answer. he told Michael to check back and gave him a card with the police station direct phone line. Michael returned to the car and turned on his navigation system and maple street was only 5 blocks away. he made his way there, parked the car and walked to violet’s front door and rang the bell several times. to no avail, no one was home. he saw a neighbor mowing his lawn so he motioned to Victoria and walked up the sidewalk. the man stopped his lawnmower and Victoria saw them shake hands. the man told Michael that violet adams was visiting her son and family in Virginia beach, Virginia. Michael thanked him and returned to the car. he explained to Victoria what he had found out. Victoria asked if she could drive by her old childhood home several blocks away. Michael agreed and there they saw a white picket fence and a new sidewalk of layered brick and lots of children’s toys in the yard. it put a smile on Victoria’s face she knew the right family bought her mother’s home. with that Michael and Victoria headed back on the interstate to return to boston. they stopped for dinner along the way. Michael told Victoria about bill Duncan the private investigator and that he would call him the very next morning and hire him to get some much needed answers. victoria thought a moment and said she thought that it was a great idea. They enjoyed the ride home and looked forward to the next day off from work. Michael took a personal day and it was Monday Victoria’s regular second day off.

the next morning Victoria started the household chores and Michael telephoned bill Duncan. his secretary told Michael she would have him call back as soon as he returned to his office. to be continued…
